Outreach Strategies

As OpenDoor conducts tours and interviews in order to fill vacancies, we encourage you to share across whatever social media platforms you use – Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. if you want to have a say in who your housemates are.

Facebook Groups and Pages
Communities often use Facebook for community outreach as well, as it can be quite effective at attracting great applicants, and lets other people check for mutual friends and other connections before applying.

  1. Facebook Groups allow you to reach out to groups of people that share similar interests to you. For instance, if you love dancing and movement and would like to live with more body movers, you could post into the salsa, ecstatic dance, or yoga groups that you’re already part of on Facebook.
  2. There are Facebook Groups for people looking for vegan friendly housing, intentional living, creativity/entrepreneurship/social justice based communities, and many others.
  3. Farmhouse, one of our Berkeley communities, used to manage through a Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/embassyfarmhouse/

Other Channels

In addition to social media, other channels to potentially share include: a listing board at your work/company, any groups you are already part of (men’s/women’s group, dance group, gaming group, etc), and of course, directly reaching out to friends and acquaintances that you would be excited to live with.

Or, if you really have time, some communities have their own site & applicant form that they manage:  https://www.notion.so/Euclid-Manor-37ea68a28c454481b68dcb11598a6e95
